Profile

Eden Nuclear and Environment Ltd was established in 2007 to provide independent consultancy and management services within the nuclear sector and for other users of radioactive substances. Our aim is to support our clients in the development of safe, sustainable and economically achievable solutions for managing nuclear and environmental liabilities. Our clients include Government, regulators, and organisations in the fields of waste management, waste disposal, and facility decommissioning. The services we provide are explained in detail in Services.

Employee Ownership

We are an employee-owned organisation currently with 19 staff working on projects for clients across and outside the UK, and we also maintain a wide network of associates and subcontractors who can offer specialist support. We are proud to be committed to a model of employee ownership and engagement facilitated through direct shareholdings, a Share Incentive Plan, an Employee Benefit Trust, profit share, and biannual business meetings attended by all staff. An employee ownership model provides significant benefits associated with staff motivation and engagement, and also attracts talent and improves employee retention.

How We Operate

We are focused on producing quality work for our clients.

As a small business within the Small and Medium-sized Enterprise (SME) definition, we have a mixture of staff working from our Penrith office and staff working from home. Our home workers are spread across the UK, which enables flexibility when a presence at site is warranted.

All senior staff are involved in both technical delivery and project management. This allows us to deliver technical excellence via small, flexible and efficient working teams. We use a “best athlete” approach when working in frameworks or on projects involving multiple organisations. Our technical delivery is supported by administrative staff to ensure timely resolution of commercial issues.

Accredited Management Systems and Certifications

Quality is at the heart of all the work that we perform for our clients, and we have an ISO 9001:2015 certified Quality Management System. We also expect to achieve external accreditation against the ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Management System) Standard in the Summer of 2024. Additionally, our IT systems are certified to meet the requirements of Cyber Essentials Plus, which enables us to securely manage customer’s information as required.

External Training

Eden NE provides tailored training in our areas of expertise, available as interactive courses at client premises, online, or at our Penrith office. Our technical experts have lectured at various universities including Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham, and Sheffield.

We have also supported UK government doctoral training initiatives, including the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Nuclear Energy in GREEN (Growing skills for Reliable Economic Energy from Nuclear).

Staff have also provided expert training to organisations such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA, for which some of our technical experts have been employed on Expert Missions) and the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

Employee Training

Our employee training arrangements focus on skills development for all employees, particularly those in the earlier stages of their careers. Some of our employees are Certified Radioactive Waste Advisors (UK RWA) and many hold chartered membership of relevant professional organisations.

Professional Development

We encourage and support employees in their professional development, and we provide funding for membership of professional institutions and organisations in order for them to become chartered practitioners in their fields. Eden NE staff are members of various professional bodies, including the Institute of Physics, The Geological Society, The Society for Radiological Protection, The Royal Society of Chemistry, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and the Institute of Chemical Engineers
