
Paul was appointed as a Director in October 2022, after joining Eden NE as an Associate Director 2017. He is a Chartered Chemist (CChem), a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC) and a Member of the Society for Radiological Protection (MSRP).
Throughout his career, Paul has worked in several nuclear related roles, including research, regulation and environmental safety support to site operations. His work has encompassed many aspects of radioactive waste management, including evaluation of waste forms, assessment modelling and optimisation studies. In operational roles he has managed an environmental monitoring programme covering two reactor sites, helped develop safety cases for waste disposal and supported waste management operations.
Paul joined Eden NE from the Nuclear Regulation Group of the Environment Agency, where he was a senior nuclear regulator with responsibility for corporate regulation of EDF Energy Nuclear Generation Ltd's nuclear reactor fleet in England, and also a lead assessor in the Generic Design Assessment (GDA) of new reactor designs.
Paul was previously a member of the Nuclear Waste Assessment Team (NWAT) and was the project lead on initial regulatory scrutiny of the GDF programme (from 2003).
Paul is a trained facilitator and project manager who is experienced in collaborative working with others, including nuclear operators, regulators and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). He has published extensively and has participated in numerous nuclear sector workshops, given technical presentations at international conferences, contributed to international initiatives and participated in stakeholder forums.
In his current role he has recently led several high-profile projects relating to radioactive waste management that have involved extensive stakeholder interactions.
Paul is also a Director of the Corporate Trustee company for the Eden NE Employee Benefit Trust (EBT). The EBT is the major shareholder of Eden NE, and a key component of Eden NE's employee ownership model.
