Andy is founder, former Managing Director and former Board Director of Eden NE. He is a geologist and geochemist by training, and is a Fellow of the Geological Society (FGS). Andy's expertise is in radioactive waste disposal and radioactive waste management where he has a track record lasting more than thirty years. He specialises in technical co-ordination and management, and advising on and reviewing technical programmes to support radioactive waste disposal.

For a number of years, he was Manager of the Environment Agency's Nuclear Waste Assessment Team, which was responsible for the technical review of proposals for radioactive waste management and disposal in England and Wales. He therefore has a wide appreciation of regulatory issues. In the past, he has managed large technical research and assessment projects and programmes undertaken in support of deep geological disposal in the UK and has extensive experience of working on overseas disposal facilities, including in Sweden, Norway, Hungary, Russia, Bulgaria, Australia and Canada. He has been a member of several technical peer review panels and advisory committees.

Andy currently provides extensive technical management support for the development of the Low Level Waste Repository's Environmental Safety Case. He has recently undertaken several projects on the Near-surface Disposal of Higher Activity Wastes on behalf of a number of UK clients; these projects involved the technical co-ordination of large multi-disciplinary teams. Throughout his career, he has managed, undertaken and participated in many optimisation studies based on BAT and Value Framework methodologies, including options studies focused on repository design.
