Paul was appointed as a Director in November 2023, after joining the company in 2013. He is a Chartered Physicist (CPhys) and has a PhD in theoretical condensed matter physics.

Paul has over 15 years' experience in mathematical and computational modelling, including the development of scientific software to model material properties. He has undertaken work to develop and apply radiological dose models and models of radionuclide transport in the environment.

Paul has significant experience in using models to perform radiological risk assessments, and to support the development of Environmental Safety Cases (ESCs) and derivation of Waste Acceptance Criteria (WAC) for radioactive waste disposal facilities. He is an experienced and highly capable technical author, and has written, or contributed significantly to, several regulatory submissions, including updates to ESCs and Article 37 submissions.

Paul has a particular interest and expertise in Best Available Techniques (BAT) studies to determine optimised management strategies for complex radioactive waste problems; he has led studies to determine optimised end states for decommissioning nuclear facilities; he is currently leading studies to optimise the design of an existing radioactive waste disposal facility.

Paul is also an experienced technical manager. He currently works as part of a client team delivering a major update to an ESC. In this role, Paul helps to define the technical programme of work, specifying and managing delivery of contractor work. Paul is an experienced project manager; he has managed numerous projects, and he currently project manages Eden NE's most significant framework contract.
