Rosie joined Eden NE in 2020 after completing a PhD in nuclear engineering at the University of Lancaster where her work focussed on investigating the responses of charge-coupled devices to alpha and beta radiation. She undertook her PhD as part of the Next Generation Nuclear Centre for Doctoral Training, which included post-graduate taught modules in nuclear power and decommissioning.

Her initial work at Eden NE has enabled her to apply her knowledge of radiation detection technologies and their application by reviewing detection technologies and deployment methods for beach particles at Sellafield. Rosie's understanding of waste management has also enabled her to contribute to a variety of projects.

This has included supporting inventory assessments for facilities considering different designs and constraints using the 2019 UKRWI, and the production of a Best Available Techniques (BAT) study for a new facility, focussing on the management of solid, aqueous, and gaseous radioactive wastes. Rosie has applied her knowledge of exposure and dose calculations to perform human intrusion assessments considering several different exposure scenarios and pathways, and calculations to determine site-specific clean-up values.

She has also had input into updating Volume 3 of the Integrated Impact Assessment of the NDA strategy by checking data relating to health and employment statistics, environmental data, and site-specific data for all NDA sites. Rosie supports LLW Repository's Waste Inventory and Compliance team, and in this role has produced a framework for training related to the Waste Acceptance Criteria and has reviewed documentation relating to opportunity wastes.
