Dr Laura Offin joined Eden NE in July 2024 as a Senior Consultant. She holds a PhD in Chemistry and a MChem in Chemistry with Environmental Science, along with teaching qualifications (PGCE and PGC in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education). Laura has previously worked in a variety of roles, including teaching and outreach roles in academia, in a materials research company as a research scientist and an intellectual property specialist, as a science teacher, and a role carrying out statistical analysis.

Before starting employment at Eden NE Laura gained an insight into the nuclear industry by supervising student industry-based dissertation projects and interacting with professions within the industry and its regulators to ensure course relevancy for the degree programme she managed. Laura has previously been involved in materials research regarding fuel cell and battery materials and has an interest in energy production and environmental protection. Since working at Eden NE Laura has provided support to Environmental Safety Case (ESC) and radioactive waste inventory projects. She has carried out a radiological dose assessment and been involved in a project relating to a material for Pu disposition. She has also been involved in projects relating to near surface disposal options and inventory.
