Reuben joined Eden NE as a Consultant in April 2024, having become a Master of Chemical Engineering at The University of Manchester in the summer of 2023. During his degree, he covered an abundance of engineering topics before focusing on the energy sector in his final year, where he studied modules such as 'The Nuclear Fuel Cycle' and 'Sustainable Energy Systems'. For his final year dissertation, Reuben produced a technical report on corrosion and preventative coatings, where he used simulation software to model the leaching behaviour of inhibitive pigments from within coatings. He conducted studies to determine his input data and carried out a detailed analysis of the quantitative and qualitative results.

Since joining Eden NE, a key topic area Reuben has gained valuable experience in is the disposition of plutonium (Pu). In this work for NDA, he has studied both zirconolites and MOx as wasteforms for Pu immobilisation. Findings from these studies has helped inform NDA on strategies and challenges in optimising Pu wasteform performance in a geological disposal facility (GDF) and identified areas for future work. He has been a key contributor to numerous desk-based literature review projects, covering a range of different aspects of the civil nuclear industry.

Reuben has also gained experience in post-closure safety, taking the lead in a post-closure safety assessment to evaluate the suitability of Chapelcross zeolite skips packaged in 6 m³ concrete boxes for disposal in a GDF. Alongside his interest in the nuclear industry, Reuben also has a passion for sport, fitness and wellbeing, playing football and exercising regularly.
